How does short-time work affect the pension?

Short-time allowance supplements your reduced salary, but not completely. This is why the contributions that flow into your pension account decrease. But there is one piece of good news: the lower contributions will only have a minimal impact on your later pension, especially if the short-time work lasts longer. In that case, the short-time allowance absorbs 87 per cent of the wage difference. In concrete terms, if you work short-time for a full year, you will only lose a few euros on your later monthly pension.
If you invest in your old-age provision in addition to the statutory pension insurance, you don’t have to worry about these few euros. Rürup contracts or ETFs help you plan your retirement and save taxes.
