When you apply for your pension, you will be compulsorily insured in the pensioners’ health insurance scheme, provided you fulfil the pre-insurance period.
The general contribution rate for statutory health insurance of 14.6 percent (2022) also applies to pensioners. This applies to all statutory health insurance funds throughout Germany. In addition, there is an additional contribution for each individual health insurance fund, but you only have to pay half of it. The rest is paid by the SPS.
