What happens to the pension when you die?

After the death of your partner, you as the surviving spouse will continue to receive the full amount of your partner’s pension for three months. This arrangement helps to bridge the gap after the death. However, you should remember to apply for the payments for the so-called “death quarter year” at the pension insurance with the death certificate, because it is not paid automatically. During the quarter year of death, your salary or your own pension are not taken into account, but they are for the widow’s or widower’s pension later on.
